Yogya (KU)- Becoming a professor does not mean limited spare time to write a scientific work. For Prof. drg. Etty Indriyati, Ph.D., gaining the highest academic position in higher education as a professor even more encourages her to be active in writing and publishing books. In her new book Anthropometry for Medical Sciences, Nursery, Nutrition and Sports that was launched on Thursday (1/4) in Faculty of Medicine, UGM, Prof. Etty introduced anthropometry (body measurement) to know the status of nutrition and health as well as to assess physical fitness.
Â
“This book can be used by medical workers to assess people’s nutrient status. Through this book, anthropologists can conduct research of human physical diversity and their adaptation to ecology, nutrition, workers and culture,†the professor said.
Â
The book that consists of 9 chapters is illustrated and completed with measurement procedures and formulas. Several cases that are discussed in it include anthropometric tools, anatomy spots, anthropometric technique, and anthropology for nutrition, sports, military, engineering, body measurement and soma type. In the book launching there was also another UGM lecturer, dr. Carla Marchira, Sp.KJ, who launched her book entitled Psychiatric Application for Brain Tumor. In her explanation, the lecturer mentioned that the symptom of brain tumor is indicated by pain in the head, vomiting, and optic papilla edema. In fact, those symptoms are not always clearly seen particularly in early stage.
Â
“Brain tumor can even show various clinical symptoms depending on its location and size. The symptom is distinctive but it can also be obscure so we can have misleading diagnosis if we are not aware of it,†she explained. In her opinion, this book can widen knowledge not only for psychiatrists and neurologists but also for doctors to see the problem of brain tumor comprehensively. “It is important for the clinicians to study psychiatric symptoms and problems that may emerge in diagnosis, pre-surgery as well as post surgery to be considered on handling the disease,†she said.

Deputy Dean of Academic, Alumni, Business and Prosperity of the Faculty, Prof. dr. Suhardjo, S.U., Sp.M(K)., Ph.D., also moderator of the event, said that he will always encourage his teaching staff to actively write scientific books. Every year they facilitate and help its teaching staff to do this.
