Yogya (KU)- Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M.Eng., Ph.D., received the visit of Fukuoka Women’s University, Japan, at UGM Main Office, Friday (9/4). Rector of Fukuoka Women’s University, Prof. Makoto Tagaki, led the delegation.
Head of UGM’s Office of International Affairs, Dr. Eng. R. Rachmat A. Sriwijaya, S.T., M.T., said that the visit is the first time conducted by Fukuoka Women’s University in establishing cooperation of students and lecturer exchange, also research in many fields of study. “They invited UGM to send five female students to Japan because all of their students are women,†said Rachmat.
According to Rachmat, the invitation came following the lack of foreign students in the university. “The number of foreign students determines the university’s international position,†he said. Besides the exchange cooperation, Makoto Tagaki was also interested in conducting research cooperation with Faculty of Biology.
Rachmat delivered that the Japanese University which is located in Fukuoka has 9,000 female students. The idea to admit female students started back in 1923 to give education for women whose husbands had to work in Tokyo.
UGM Rector welcomed the cooperation with Fukuoka Women’s University. In his opinion, the cooperation with several universities from Japan are highly possible to happen because of the support from the Government of Japan. “Cooperation with Japanese Universities is more realistic and can run well because of the support from their Government,†he said.
