Former Head of Fiscal Policy Bureau, Dr. Anggito Abimanyu, M.Sc., assessed that the proposition for aspiration funds amounting to Rp15 billion for each member of the House of Representatives(DPR) violates the law. There are no rules in the law that legislators may propose and manage funds from the state budget.Reading skill is the foundation of children’s academic success. The children who are skillful in reading since early childhood and are always exposed to printing materials will have bigger curiosity and want to broaden their knowledge. Reversely, children who are slow in mastering reading skill are caused by their lack of reading training. These children will also lose the opportunity to develop the reading skill. That was delivered by Prof. Dr. Amitya Kumara, M.S. when she was inaugurated as professor of Faculty of Psychology UGM at UGM Senate Hall, Thursday (27/5).
Delivering speech entitled Sharpening Reading Skill in Children through Learning and Playing, the Coordinator of Academic Affairs, Psychologist Magister Program UGM revealed that children who cannot read properly are often caused by the too sophisticated reading material not suitable with their ability. The impact is they will have negative attitude and motivation. “The process is called Matthew Effect, meaning that the reading skill affects the children’s failure in mastering other academic areas. This grows worse along with the higher grade the children have,” explained Amitya Kumara.
In that occasion, the Director of MM UGM, Dr. Lincolin Arsyad, said that the return of Anggito to the campus is very much like the home-coming during the Lebaran festivities. “Returning home is very nice, especially if it’s done yearly. Hopefully, Pak Anggito will find it enjoyable forever to return to UGM,”
Meanwhile, Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business UGM, Prof. Dr. Marwan Asri, M.B.A., explained that upon his return, Anggito expressed his commitment to resume his duty as lecturer and researcher like other academicians.”Actually, Pak Anggito did not return on the the right time,” said Marwan, making the audience silent. “He came back nearer to the final exams. So, he went here and there giving no lectures, I told him that teaching is not only done in the classroom, you can give a general lecture or become speaker in a seminar. But, this is an open lecture, Pak!, Please don’t criticise enyone!” said Marwan to the laughters of the audience.
Anggito’s open lecture had the theme of Political Economics of Budget and Business Circle. The audience were also entertained by poetry reading of We Miss Travelling on the Carriage of Light by poet Taufik Ismail. After the 45-minutes lecture, the all-round artist Butet Kartaradjasa came on stage showing his skills in monologue performance. “Anggito’s return showed that there are still people having good morale in this country. I hope he will inspire others to take good stance,” Butet ended his performance. At the end of the event, Anggito collaborated with musician Dwiki Darmawan. He proved well not only in the state budget management, but also in playing flute.
