Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM inaugurated the establishment of Indonesian for Latin America Community or the Sociedad Indonesia para America Latina (SIpAL). It was opened directly by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc., on Monday (14/6), at the Seminar Room, second floor of Library Unit I.

Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc., mentioned that the establishment of SIpAL is one of the manifestation of the broader internationalization development. 'We want to make students and lecturers, not only in this Faculty, but also all faculty, to actively participate in the internationalization efforts by learning together about Latin America in all aspects, whether about the culture, language, social as well as its political life,' he explained.

He added, to support the development of the Latin American studies, they will facilitate comparative studies with several countries in the region, one of them is Mexico.

The inauguration was also attended by the Ambassador of Mexico to Indonesia, Melba Pria, who previously gave a public lecture about the experience of Mexico as one of the core countries in Latin America's political arena. In that occasion, Melba Pria offered cooperation in the field of education with the Faculty. It will include, among others, scholarships to two lecturers, student and lecturer exchange and translation of books from the region to the Indonesian language.
