Globalization requires universities to start thinking about the relevance, quality, and institutions governance in order to maintain the institution existence in an increasingly dynamic world. The rise of globalization has placed universities in Indonesia in more challenges. Universities should be able to provide quality human resources, infrastructure, and financing systems in support of the operational activity.
That was expressed by Adityo Hidayat S.T. Majo Kayo (Gamatechno Indonesia) in the seminar on Implementation Preparation for Integrated Information Technology in Higher Education held on Thursday (8/7) at the University Club (UC) UGM. Adityo conveyed that integrated information system is one thing that should be owned by universities to support the continuity of education. By implementing an integrated information system, universities can provide better information services to the public," he explained.
According to Adityo, currently universities hold the academic process decentralization. That way, each academic unit becomes very dynamic and autonomous. The integrated information system facilitates universities in realising integral "island of information" that supports policies between units.
Dr. Ir. Budi Prasetyo Widyobroto, D.E.A., D.E.S.S, Director of Academic Administration, UGM, mentioned that the application of academic information systems at UGM proved to help the continuity of administration and education processes at UGM. “The implementation of academic information systems simplifies things, not only in the process of data administration, but also in facilitating prospective students/community, faculty, students, even parents of students in accessing information," he explained. Budi added, the implementation of the academic information systems at UGM is also the University’s form of responsibility to provide information transparently and accountably to the public.
