JOGJAKARTA (KU) - PT. PLN as the only company that supplies the national electricity demand is running 10 thousand MW project to fulfill national electricity need. The project is targeted to be completed in 2012. To support the project, this year PLN targets to recruit 2604 new employees from different disciplines.

To meet the target of new staff, PT PLN cooperates with the Engineering Career Center (ECC), Faculty of Engineering UGM to hold an event entitled PLN Recruitment Fair on July 14, 2010 in Graha Sabha Pramana that is planned to be opened directly by its President Director, Dahlan Iskan.

"Until now there are 11 thousand applicants who have registered by means of online registration," said Nurhadi, ECC Director to the press on Monday (12/7) in Grafika  Room, University Club.

Based on previous experience, Nurhadi said that of 11 thousand applicants, PLN  usually accepted only 6-10 percent. Most of previous candidates failed in medical test and emotional maturity. "On average, 30 percent failed in the psychological test and the most (30-70 percent) failed in medical test," he explained.

Selection for applicants is not easy, they must pass administration test, general aptitude test, academic and English language test, psychological test, medical test, and interview. Nevertheless, Nurhadi reminded the applicants not to depend on their GPAs, but soft skills. "GPA is only 10 percent accounted, 10 percent of hard skills, the remaining 80 percent is soft skills," he said.

Nurhadi conveyed that due to strict selection process, PLN cannot meet the number of new employees targeted each year. "Last year, PLN required 1600 employees of the D3 and S1 programs, but could only recruit 1100 people. From the ECC, at least we can contribute to PLN 400-600 employees," he explained.

Some activities will be carried out during PLN Recruitment Fair, including talk show entitled Challenge to Have Qualified HR to fulfill National Energy Need, presenting guest speaker Dahlan Iskan and Dean of Faculty of Engineering UGM, Dr. Tumiran. Besides, career workshop on preparation to do psychological test, interview or medical test will be conducted by representatives from ECC UGM and PT. PLN.
