Laboratory staff of the Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory (LPPT) UGM, Tri Wahyudi, S. Kom, has been declared the winner of the National Selection of National Outstanding Academicians 2010. Following in the second ranking was Rini Purnawati, BSc, STP, MSi, from IPB and Aris Hartaman, ST, from Telkom Institute of Technology in the third ranking.
Representing UGM in the competition held in Jakarta from 12-14 July 2010, Tri Wahyudi managed to set aside 59 participants from various state universities and representatives of 12 private universities from all over Indonesia. The selection process was held quite tightly, each participant went through three stages of assessment. Participants made portfolio assessment, the self-description presentation and innovative work, as well as focus group discussions.
In addition, during the selection the participants were continually monitored psychologically and later they participated in psychotest as well as leadership group discussions. ‘One of Tri Wahyudi’s strength, compared to other competitors, is his competence as a laboratory staff, not only in the operation of the device, but also calibration maintenance," said Dr. Tri Joko, one of the judges, in the event on the campus of UGM, Monday (19/7). Even with the other jurors, Prof. Nurpilihan Bafdal (Padjadjaran University), Komar Sutriah, M. Si (IPB), Prof. Bambang Sugiarto (UI) and Dr. Sritomo Wignhosoebroto (ITS), Tri Joko gave high appraisal to Tri Wahyudi. He was considered successful in developing information systems and databases of laboratory materials that have been implemented in the LPPT-UGM. Besides, thanks to the experience in implementing ISO 17025-2005 that was obtained by the LPPT as an accredited laboratory, he looked very controlled in the focus group discussion.
Tri Joko further explained the national level event for the category of laboratory staff in 2010 is the second one. Previously in 2009, laboratory staff of the University of Indonesia was declared the best. "In the past year, UGM laboratory staff did not make to the top 10. So, this year’s achievement is a tremendous leap despite UGM’s minimal preparations. As a comparison, UNPAD has conducted serious coaching for six months before this competition," he said.
