UGM American Corner (AmCor) Library was awarded the Best Programming and the Best Reporting by the Information Resources Center (IRC) US Embassy Jakarta. UGM AmCor was selected as the best among the 11 American Corners throughout Indonesia.
According to the Head of UGM Library, Drs. Ida Fajar Priyanto, M.A., the award was given because UGM AmCor has consistently shown independence and good performance dealing with the implementation of the program during the last two years. One of them is able to implement the program exceeded the target set by the United States Embassy in Jakarta.
"In the last two years, UGM AmCor conducted approximately 144 programs while the United States Embassy Jakarta only targeted four programs each year or eight programs in two years," he explained at UGM Library on Wednesday (28/7).
He continued that the number of programs conducted by UGM Amcor also exceeded the number of programs at other universities. UGM AmCor programs included discussions, seminars, digital video conference, outreach programs, English Club, presentations, film screening and paper exhibitions, and library development through UGM students service, as well as information literacy.
UGM AmCor also has different type and theme of programs. Types of programs included web-chat (via CONX), education and cultural exhibitions, discussions, seminars, digital video conference, outreach programs, English Club, presentations, film screening, paper exhibitions, and development of libraries and information literacy. "The theme was varied, involving various scientific disciplines. In each program there is always sharing between both sides so that the shared information is not only about America, but also about Indonesia," he explained.
Nur Cahyati Wahyuni, Chairman of American Corner & ASL section, added that the award had been given to them due to their program reports that they regularly sent to the US Embassy Jakarta. She also proactively sought targets of diverse audience, including the general public. "In carrying out its programs, UGM American Corner invites several groups from schools, NGOs, arts institutions, UGM academicians, students on UGM field practice as well as academicians from other private universities," she explained.
