UGM Community Empowerment Program Field Practice (KKN-PPM) Unit 27 will hold batik and photography expo from 5 to 18 August, 2010 at the Phoenix Hotel. The event entitled Respect To Nature will present the products of Nur Giri Indah Batik Community.

According to Christa Adhi Dharma, Coordinator of KKN students, the theme was raised in line with the characteristics of Nur Giri Indah products that use natural dyes. The coloring process uses natural materials found around Tancep village. Some of those include Indigofera leaves, mahogany leaves, jalawe seeds, Morinda root’s bark, lotus, and acacia. "The use of natural dyes guarantees that their products do not damage the environment and human health," he explained, Tuesday (3/8) at UGM.

Nur Giri Indah Batik is a batik industrial group founded in 1992 in Tancep Village, Ngawen Sub-district, Gunung Kidul Regency. The products include varieties of handmade and print batiks, including cloths, stoles, shirts, sofa cushions, tablecloths, bed sheets and pillows, handkerchiefs, bags and souvenirs.

Besides displaying the Nur Giri batik collection, those students will also present photography expo exhibiting 20 best works to appreciate the products of Nur Giri Indah Batik Community.
