Until this time, the effort to improve student achievement emphasis more on developing the cognitive aspect while the emotional and social aspects are quite marginalized. The result is a variety of ehavioral deviations by school age children and adolescents.

"Many of the students' negative behaviors occur because there is disparity between the intellectual developments with emotional intelligence," said Dra. Eunike Raffy Rustiana, lecturer of Faculty of Sport Science, State University of Semarang, during an open promotion of doctoral examinations at the Faculty of Psychology UGM, Monday (9/8).

In order to minimize the possibility of the negative behaviors occurrence of children in school age, an effort to develop emotional intelligence is necessary at an early age, particularly elementary school age children. She mentioned that various attempts have been conducted; one of them is the development of elementary school children emotional intelligence through analysis of literary figures function. But these efforts proved ineffective. Not all students can grasp the meaning by reading and discussion.

The wife of Ir. Soetomo Siswowidjono, Dipl. HE, said in her dissertation entitled Efforts to Increase elementary school Emotional Intelligence through Harmony Physical Education, harmony of physical education has been proven effective in improving the emotional intelligence of elementary school students. Harmony of physical education in elementary schools is designed to develop motor skills, fitness, and emotional intelligence. "The progress of students in emotional intelligence is the result of interaction of thoughts and feelings when they joined the sport," she explained. She added in order to obtain the development of emotional intelligence as desired, physical education material should be made systematically as expected.
