"If they are sick, they should still be imprisoned but given adequate health care facilities. Do not release them," he said.
Besides hurting the public sense of justice, exempting and granting leniency for corruptors are also very damaging in terms of humanitarian and economic sides. On the other hand, directly or indirectly, it will further undermine the efforts to eradicate corruption that are being intensively conducted.
"Our loss in terms of economic and humanitarian aspects is greater if corruptors are released. This will weaken efforts by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to eradicate corruption practices," Suharman added.
He believed if the government had no firm commitment in a legal action against the corruptors, it would be a bad precedent in the future. There will be many corruptors who pretend to be sick or claim to be ill to get released.
However, losses of nation and people due to corruption today have not been a kidding anymore. By releasing corruptors, KPK is also increasingly abused. Moreover, the corruptors, besides trying to undermine the role of the commission, they also weaken other law enforcement agencies.
"We can not fool around with corruptors today. They’ve been trying to suppress and intimidate almost all law enforcement agencies such as police and even up to the judge. Look at the Century Bank case, it has now gone unheard,” he concluded
