YOGYAKARTA- As many as 384 participants followed the preliminary round of Indonesia NetRiders Challenge 2010. NetRiders Challenge 2010 is a national competition of computer networks and information technology (IT). Sri Suning Kusumawadini, ST, MT, the committee chairman who is also professor of Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (JTETI) UGM said on Wednesday (20/ 10) that from 384 participants who followed the preliminary round, 39 will be taken as finalists.

Suning added that there are finalists from Department of Electrical Engineering & Information Technology, Fahim Jatmiko and Ninan Kara Gicha Nasution who are under the guidance of Sri Suning Kusumawadini, Eko Prasetyo, Addin Suwastono, and Jafilun. According to Suning, Ninan Kara Gicha and Fahim Jatmiko succeeded to be on the 4th and 6th of national ranking. In fact, Ninan has the opportunity to follow Asia Pacific NetRiders Challenge on 28 October. "Ninan gets the opportunity to follow Asia Pacific NetRiders Challenge following her 4th place. The final will be using Cisco's Telepresence technology so that each team will compete from their own country without having to gather in one place," she explained.

Suning explained that the organization of competition in 2010 was conducted in two stages. The first stage was the preliminary round on October 7 through an online exam with the problems created by international teams. The fields tested are design, configuration, development, and maintenance of computer network hardware, which are all included in the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum.

The purpose of this competition is to stimulate and enhance the ability of learners in designing, maintaining, and resolving network problems. The annual program has been held regularly since 2003 with participants of the Cisco Networking Academy students all over Indonesia. "It is expected that this competition can stimulate and enhance the ability of learners in designing, maintaining, and resolving network problems," Suning added.

The final round of this competition has been held at Department of Electrical Engineering & Information Technology (JTETI) on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. To open the final event, on October 19, 2010 at UC Hotel UGM, Cisco on Education has invited representatives of students, lecturers, and teachers around Yogyakarta and Central Java. Final materials consist of theory/ concept, continued with the process of configuration and troubleshooting of computer and Internet networks. "For the finals yesterday, the test material consisted of theory/concept and process of configuration and troubleshooting of computer and Internet networks," she said.

Sri Suning Kusumawadini added that the final took place smoothly. This activity is expected to bring benefits to young people who have sufficient competence in the field of IT and are ready to compete internationally. Cisco Networking Academy is proud to participate in discovering young talents who will be expected to encourage collaboration of potential sources in Indonesia which are spread geographically. "This event is well managed because of good cooperation among committee, Department of Electrical Engineering & Information Technology Faculty of Engineering UGM, the Cisco Systems, all of the Cisco Networking Academy, and the Center for Information and Communication Technology Services (PPTIK) UGM," Suning said.
