YOGYAKARTA - Dean of Faculty of Medicine UGM, Prof. dr. Ali Ghufron Mukti, M.Sc., Ph.D., inaugurated 29 new nurses, comprising 3 men and 26 women on Tuesday (21/12) at the Sardjito Hospital Training Center building. Therefore, until recently the number of nurses graduated is as many as 1083.

Ali Ghufron in his speech asserts that nowadays nurse graduates are in great demand both in the country and abroad. He gave an example, Japan required as many as 1000 nurses from Indonesia. Not only that, the Netherlands and other developed countries in Europe are in shortage of nurses. "We will support if there are graduates wanting to become 'ambassador' of the nation abroad," said Ghufron.

If there are  graduates not interested, Ghufron understands it, because they are  still much needed in various areas, although there are many nursing graduates following the establishment of several institutions of nursing education. "Currently, more than 300 new health schools are stablished," he said.

However, Ghufron is certain that graduates from UGM have very good competence in providing health services for the community. To the new nurses, Ghufron hoped they can work and serve to maintain the excellent name of the University. "The real learning is when we serve the community. We also do not want the alumni to get problems associated with their profession," he said.

In addition, Ghufron emphasized that they continue to add new knowledge and skills of nursing science. On that occasion, Ghufron also informed that  UGM plans to establish S2 education and specialist education for nursing science. "Alumni will be able continue their education here," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Yogyakarta Provincial Health Office, dr. Sarminto, M. Kes., in his welcoming speech read out by the Head of Section for Infrastructure Facilities, drg. Yuli Kusumawati, M. Kes., emphasized that  graduates in the community should have the expertise (skills), behavior (attitude) and knowledge in serving the community. "It's important for nurses to have experience in the field," he said

He also hoped that the nurse also always maintains the code of professional conduct and maintain moral values in society.

The 17th inauguration was attended by Director of Human Resources and Education of Dr Sardjito Hospital, dr. Sigit Priohutomo, MPH,  Yuli Kusumawati, M. Kes, and Head of Division of Faculty of Medicine UGM in Nursing, Purwanta, S.Kp., M. Kes. On the occasion, Purwanta reported, the highest GPA this time, 3.93, was achieved by Fitri Asriani.
