Yogyakarta – The young generation holds important control in every journey of Indonesia’s national history. It is recorded in the long Indonesia’s history from the revival period to the Independence, that all that has been achieved is due to their initiative. The youth is not only demanded to have commitment, highly competent, pluralistic standpoint, and optimistic, but has also to be good and have religious personality.
That emerged in the discussion Indonesian Youth’s Dream initiated by Center for Pancasila Studies, Friday afternoon (21/1). Speakers in the event were researcher of the Center, Drs. Djoko Pitoyo, from Paguyuban Kebangsaan Jakarta organisation, Drs. Pitoyo, M.A., GMNI activist of Yogyakarta, Bintar Lulus Pradipta and representatives of UGM Student Association.
Djoko Pitoyo, said that religiosity of a young man is more built if he can respect religious diversity and other’s faith. However, he regretted that there are conflicts between religions which are caused by a clash among faiths and dispute between young people. “We see now two young people watching a match together, then quarrelling, then two hamlets were in conflict. “If this nation will be united, there should be understanding and empathy to each other,” he said.
Pitoyo had another opinion, he assessed that the spirit to unite and communicate with each other is important for the young people to deal with life in this era. “The important thing is the spirit to be independent and united, don’t stop the communication. If the nation unites, the state will be safe. The nation is the spirit of the state,” he said.
It is different from Elias’ view, one of participants from Papua. According to Elias, the youth must have a dream to build the nation. If in the years of 1908 and 1928, they dreamed to realize education and health in order to free Indonesia from colonization, the current young generation should also have a dream to be realized together. “It must be a united dream. For example, Indonesia will be free from corruption in the next 10 years or national leaders are those who have Pancasila ideology,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pradipta emphasized that the current youth dream is to realize the ideal from the revolution period to create world peace and prosperity for Indonesian people.
