Teams of SMAN 1 Kebumen managed to dominate the National Geography Olympiad (Olgenas) 2011 competition that was held at the UGM Faculty of Geography from 5-6 February and followed by 86 high schools. Four of the students of SMAN 1 Kebumen successfully won three titles, namely, the first champion, third, and the best participant in written test category. Meanwhile, the second winner was won by SMAN 1 Banjarnegara."Obviously, we're happy and we thank god for this, we did not think we would win," said Ahmad Kamal Mubarok from SMAN 1 Kebumen when met after being named as the first winner on Sunday (6/2).

In the Olympiad this time, each school is entitled to send two teams. Luckily, all the teams that were sent by Kamal’s school managed to become champion. When asked about the secret of the victory of his school, the first child of two brothers said, "Our preparation was the same as other (participants), create an essay and poster. About a week before we were ready for it."

During the competition, along with other participants Kamal followed five stages of the selection process, namely, essay writing, poster making, written test, and presentation. "For the presentation, we submitted a paper on Umbrella of Indonesia as Early Preparation to Minimize Impact of El-Nino and La-Nina," said Kamal who was born in Kebumen in 1994.

The winner in best essay category and best poster writing in the competition this time was SMAN 1 Temanggung and MAN 1 Yogyakarta respectively. Furthermore, the best written test score was achieved by the participant from SMAN 1 Kebumen and the best presentation by SMAN 1 Banjarnegara while for teachers writing contest it was won by Hendirikus B. Hertanto from SMA MTA in Surakarta.

For the winner of Olgenas in junior level, the first winner was won by SMPN 1 Temanggung and followed by SMPN 1 Ponjong and SMP 8 Yogyakarta as second and third winners respectively. All winners received trophies, certificates and coaching prize.
