YOGYAKARTA, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is one of strategic facilities that should be developed to support the activities on campus. Up to this date UGM also continues to develop the use of ICT in all areas, not only for learning and teaching, but also administration. "For example, currently the administration in the human resources to finance are mostly based on Information Technology," said Vice Rector for UGM Alumni Affairs and Business Development, Prof. Ir. Atyanto Dharoko, M. Phil., Ph.D., when opening the National Seminar on Development of Information and Communication Technology on Campus at the Auditorium of UGM Faculty of Science, Friday (11/2).
In his observations, the development of ICT at UGM has provided benefits to all areas of learning and administrative operations. In addition, through the use of ICTs, UGM can collaborate with foreign universities in the areas of cooperation, promotion, and internationalization. "The real proof of UGM internationalization is the various ISO certificates gained by faculty and other units," he added.
Meanwhile, Head of UGM Information and Communication Technology Services (PPTIK), Dr. Tech. Khabib Mustafa, M. Kom., mentioned some achievements of the development of ICT that have been conducted, such as the establishment of a web-portal for alumni, student affairs, libraries, NGOs (Elisa), multimedia, information availability via the website, and e-mailing. "Information via the website, whether for individuals, institutions and organizations, is hosted in a total of 8322 hosts. In addition, we provide backup and restore applications as well as databases as the initial establishment of DRC in Yogyakarta and Jakarta," Habib added.
Nevertheless, Habib admitted that there are still some problems of ICT development on the campus. Because of the complexity of UGM operations, the handling of ICT’s development has not been possible to be done centrally. This makes much information not yet collected. "Of course, this is also related to the budget for ICT each year, the device that is owned by the units as well as collaborations with third parties," he said.
Besides Habib, other speakers also attended the seminar, namely Drs. Bambang Nurcahyo Prastowo, M.Sc., who proposed a paper, Adoption of Social Networking Features in Management Information System is Lesson of Development of Paperless Office Systems, and Agung Ariansyah, S. Kom., who conveyed a subject Development and Maintenance of Wide Area Network, Lessons from Inherent, Particularly Jogja Inherent.
