UGM Rector opened the new building of Gama Medical Center (GMC) Health Center (HC) located at Sekip Block L No.3 Sendowo, on Thursday (17/2). The inauguration was symbolically marked by the signing of the inscription and the cutting of traditional rice cone by the Rector who was accompanied by Director of GMC, Dr. drg. Yulita Hendrartini, M. Kes. Also attending the event were Vice Chancellor Alumni Affairs and Business Development, Executive Secretary , Drs. Djoko Moerdiyanto, MA, along with the ranks of leadership of UGM.
UGM Rector in his speech mentioned that health is important in human life. Dealing with health problems also means dealing with important issues. Health problems are even predicted by world economists to become the biggest turnover commodity compared with other fields in the future. "Today, awareness of the importance of health is increasing. So, it is not surprising if the use of money is mostly in the health sector," he said.
In relation with the opening of this new building, the Rector hoped that GMC can provide better service for members of community of UGM. "I hope that the GMC can provide benefits, especially for UGM members of community, therefore the UGM values can be actualized, namely for civilization and national interest," he said.
Previously, Dr. drg. Yulita Hendrartini, M. Kes., conveyed that the relocation of the GMC clinic service aims to improve the quality of service for the patients. The old building was no longer able to accommodate between 200-250 people every day. In addition, the development of GMC services also need more space.
In addition to providing medical services and specialist services, GMC has also developed a number of other services, such as medical checkups for UGM civil servants, psychological services, stop-smoking clinic services, health promotion and preventive use of drugs, nutritional counseling, fitness, and activities that support the prevention of diseases , i.e., gymnastics, fitness, and yoga. "By occupying this new building, hopefully we can do better in providing services for patients who are also our stakeholders," he explained.
On the occasion, Yulita also announced the increase in the GMC financing in recent time. This is due to an increased number of traffic accidents among the students and staff of UGM from year to year. In 2006, the number of accidents reached 637 cases or 53 cases per month in average. "While in the year 2010 it increased to 1121 cases or 94 cases per month or 3 cases per day," she explained.
The GMC is an institute of health insurance administration for UGM students and employees. This unit was established in 2000 in the Bulaksumur area and opened by the Rector of UGM that time, Prof. Dr. Ichlasul Amal. Since its initiation up until recently, GMC has had 40,000 participants.
