Bandung – The team from Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM) became the winner in the Indonesian Undergraduate Geophysics Competition (IUGC) 2011 after beating the host team ITB, which came second. Indonesian Undergraduate Geophysics Competition (IUGC) 2011 is the first competition in Indonesia, run by students of Geophysics Engineering of ITB (HIMA TG TERRA).
The competition that last for two days, 14-15 Februari 2011, at the Multimedia Room Labtek TP Rachmat ITB Jalan Ganeca, Bandung, was followed by 8 teams from several universities in Indonesia, including Universitas Negeri Lampung (Unila), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), UPN Yogyakarta, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Brawijaya (Unibraw) and Institut Teknologi Surabaya.
The UGM team was announced the winner after obtaining 775.33 point. Next was ITB with 731.73 point, and third winner the UPN Yogyakarta team with 681.00 point. "With such point, UGM was announced first winner and entitled for IUGC trophy," said chairman of Student Competition IUGC 2011, Yarris Ibdian Kamis (17/2).
The assessment, according to Yarris, was based on cummulative assessment on the first and second day. On the first day, participants were asked to analyse, interpret and present data. On the second day, participants were doing quizz. On the first day, the Unpad team came first adopting the theme ‘Interpretation of Exploration of Geothermal Data’, followed by ITB with ‘Oil and Gas Exploration’, and Unila team with ‘Geothermal Exploration’. For the quizz, in the first stage the UGM team was the winner followed by Unila which won the second stage. "In the third stage, UGM won it after defeating other teams," he said.
The panel of jury consisted of lecturers from ITB and Eleonora Agustine, M.T., from Unpad, and Dr. Djedi S. Widarto from Pertamina EPTC. "Award presentation was done during a gala dinner at the Beverly Hills, attended by Prof. Sri Wdiyantoro, Dean and Dr. Agus Laesanpura Head of Geophysics Department," Yarris said.
