As a presentation to the academic community of UGM and the public, Gadjah Mada Chamber Orchestra (GMCO) performed a tribute concert entitled A Journey from Classic to Modern. The concert was held on Saturday, 26 February 2011, at Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri Cultural Center between 19.00-22.00 pm.
Sheila Primadewi Sanjaya, one of members of GMCO, mentioned that the concert aims to introduce GMCO student activity unit more to UGM academic community and the public. “GMCO is a new student activity unit, it was formed three years ago. The concert is expected to show GMCO in order that it is more recognized by UGM academic community and the wider community,” she explained on Thursday (24/2) on UGM campus.
The concert is also to show the public that UGM students not only have academic achievements but also contribute to develop and preserve culture through orchestra. “This concert is expected to increase public love to arts and culture,” the student of Architecture Engineering added.
Theodorus Tito Tryastoto, a member of GMCO, added that the concert is the first time for GMCO. On the occasion, 12 repertoires will be presented such as Divertimento, Cloud Smile, Nessun Dorma, August Rhapsody, Jali-jali, Rintak Rebana, Tanah Jawi, Gabriels Oboe, Dzikir Merapi, and Farandole. “The first concert of GMCO will be attended by around 500 audience. At least, there are 12 repertoires to be performed,” he said.
The concert will present Singgih Sanjaya and Anggito Abimanyu as guest stars. The two are expected to enliven the first concert of Gadjah Mada Chamber Orchestra. “Singgih Sanjaya will lead GMCO in his composition. Meanwhile, Anggito Abimanyu will play two repertoires accompanied by GMCO and Koala Band,” the student of class 2006 explained .
GMCO is one of student activity units in UGM in arts. This unit unites UGM students who have interest in orchestra to explore their creativity and aspiration. GMCO was formed on 16 February 2008. Although it is still new, GMCO has been active in some events at UGM such as by becoming accompanist of first concert of class 37 and 38 of UGM Student Choir, annual concert of UGM Student Choir, National Assembly of Faculty of Medicine UGM, and others.
