Reaching its 65 anniversary, Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is determined to produce graduates who are critical and have cultural insight while able to compete nationally and internationally based on their Indonesian traditional roots. To meet this strategic objective, throughout 2010 various activities have been conducted consisting of quality improvement and relevance of S1 and S2 programs, quality improvement and research relevance and services to society, efficient and productive faculty management, provision of infrastructure which supports university quality, and organisational independence and networking. "In the implementation, each of those is broken into smaller programs," Dr. Ida Rochani Adi said at the Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri Cultural Centre UGM, Thursday (3/3), delivering Dean’s Annual Report in the summit of 65th anniversary celebration of the Faculty.
Ida said that to increase education quality and relevance, apart from face-to-face learning, problem-based learning, case-based learning, collaborative learning, research-based learning (RBL), and intensive mentoring have also been implemented. "The intensive mentoring is particularly given in the final assignment. Now, we’re initiating e-learning education. This way, lectures can be done online," she said.
For Internet-based learning, INCULS has developed Test of Indonesian as a Foreign Language (TIFL) software. The success of this education program opimalisation is thanks to the support from all members of academic community.
Related to efficient and productive management, at least four subprograms have been conducted: standardisation of academic management and finance which showed that the Faculty did not experience unexpected increase of students.
The Faculty has also adopted good governance for institutional development. There are four targets: Internal Quality Audit (AMI), development planning for study, administrative and households services, and long and medium terms planning. "Of all four, administrative and households services are done by relocating administration office and library for efficiency," she added.
