YOGYAKARTA-Course materials delivered in universities on legal issues concerning energy, gas, and oil are still minimal. In fact, related legal issues in connection with that are commonly encountered. In addition, some universities so far do not have oil and gas majors so that students are lacking knowledge associated with them. "This matter is important and now legal issues often arise related to energy, oil and gas often arise, so these need to be conveyed to students more frequently," said Manager of International Undergraduate Program (IUP) Faculty of Law UGM Field Cooperation and Development, Dina Widyaputri Kariodimedjo, SH, LL.M., on the sidelines of the workshop on Oil and Gas Law at the Faculty on Monday (7/3). The workshop presented speaker, Prof. Michel Datcharry of Total Professeurs Associes, Total E & P Indonesia.
Dina said that the understanding of the energy law is not only minimal among the students, but also lecturers. In fact, in Faculty of Law UGM, the subjects and lecturers that especially administer the problem are not available. Based on the condition, the IUP of FH UGM since last year has worked with Total E & P Indonesia to hold workshops and public lectures presented by Prof. Michel Datcharry.
On the occasion, Dina pointed out problems that arise in connection with legal issues of energy, such as environmental and social cases. In the workshop, at least students are taught about the contracts, competition, tax issues in energy law. "At least, they are taught about contracts, competition and taxation. Let’s learn from Total Indonesia through the association of teachers that they have," she said.
In addition, through the CSR program of Total Indonesia followed by 60 participants, both students and lecturers at Yogyakarta and -Central Java, they wanted to know more about the concept that is offered, for example about the development of alternative energy outside oil, such as geothermal.
On that occasion, Prof. Michel Datcharry presented many legal issues that commonly arise in business in the field of oil and gas, including the agreement/contract which also involves the community, state, and the association of oil companies (International Oil Company / IOC).
