Waste Depot as a consequence of the Urban Campus

Urban areas generally have great problems in waste disposal. Therefore, the Final Disposal Unit becomes important in maintaining the cleanliness of the city due to its population density. Large cities with high population such as Yogyakarta should certainly have environmental policy, particularly regulations in waste management.

No other regions in the country besides the urban areas where waste matter is considered as a very serious issue. From the time waste is produced by households, distributed and used up to the landfill, waste in urban areas is always under guard by various regulations. No wonder if garbage disposal disincentive is typical for the urban population. Yogyakarta is an urban area so that waste matter is also a serious matter.

Trash cans and colorful containers are provided on the second floor and third floor of UGM Central Office to distinguish the type of garbage collected from offices, hallway and yard.

Now, UGM which always follows the development of the Yogyakarta region in the adjustment of the campus characteristics is also getting serious in waste management. Evidence is seen in the establishment of waste depot which looks like a shelter of Trans Jogja bus. The waste depots are located in 13 points in the UGM campus. The green color shelters seems exclusive, but they look quite interesting. Indeed, the ideals of UGM as educopolis campus must be supported with adequate infrastructure including landfills.
