YOGYAKARTA – At least 27 of the 38 districts located in border areas are still in the category of underdeveloped areas. It was caused by ineffective economic development carried out by the government in border areas. In fact, in some isolated districts in the border regions of Kalimantan, the trade sector and its economy have already been controlled by Malaysia.
Suratman added the government’s duty to accelerate poverty alleviation
of underdeveloped areas in the border region is quite heavy task. The
reason is that managing border regions related with neighboring
countries. Therefore, development of border regions should be followed
by soaring development of HR. "One of them through spatial-based
regional development, the spatial data obtained can be utilized as
concrete data in the field about what to do next," he concluded.
That notion was raised in the national seminar ‘The forefront islands as the frame of Republic of Indonesia in UGM faculty of Geography, Sunday (4/4). The event was attended by among, others, Chief of Bakosurtanal, Dr. Asep Karsidi, MSc, Regional Development Deputy of Bappenas, Rohmad Supriyadi and UGM geospatial information expert, Prof. Dr. Suratman, M.Sc.
Supriyadi said that in 2011 the government prioritizes five aspects in the development of underdeveloped regions in the border regions, i.e. aspects of resilience, security, legal, economic prosperity and community institutions. “Security alone is not enough without relying on the strength of local communities,"
Pep Guardiola’s team went into the match needing a just a point after second-placed arch-rivals Real Madrid kept the race alive with a 4-0 win against Getafe on Tuesday. With head-to-head records taken into account, Barca cannot be caught after beating Real 5-0 in November and drawing the second Clasico clash 1-1 last month. "Winning the title is always difficult and this one was tough just like the others were before. Now we can enjoy this win," coach Guardiola said in quotes reportedIn the meantime UGM Geospatial expert Suratman said inequality of geospatial and regional development in border areas needs to be addressed immediately in stages to reduce the inter-regional underdeveloped disparity in Indonesia. According to Suratman, the government’s target of reducing disparities in the border region to 30 percent is not proportional given the vulnerability of these border regions to join the neighboring countries. "Ideally, this disparity can be reduced to 10 percent. Like a wound after surgery, the wound must not be left open to 30 percent and do not get stitches, "he said metaphorically.
