YOGYAKARTA-UGM continues to improve cooperation and communication with the surrounding community. This is manifested in the form of gathering between the UGM’s Rector with 34 community leaders from several neighborhoods in the vicinity area of UGM, including Barek Sinduadi, Kocoran Sinduadi, Blimbing Sari Catur Tunggal, Karang Malang Catur Tunggal and Karang Gayam Catur Tunggal sub-village.
In his speech, the Rector of UGM expressed his appreciation for the attendance of 34 community leaders. He hopes that this meeting can be a means to explore people’s ideas who have been living side by side with UGM.
"I welcome and give appreciation for their attendance and willingness of community leaders in providing ideas for UGM," said Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng,Ph.D, in UGM Multimedia Room, Sunday (17/4.)
The Rector also uses this opportunity to present UGM’s plans to conduct the region’s arrangement through the ban for freshmen class 2011 on the use of vehicles in the area of UGM. With that condition, he hopes that people around UGM can support the idea by setting up several parking locations for new students who use motor vehicles.
"Therefore, we expect the support from the community around UGM in order to prepare the parking lot for the new students’ motor vehicles. With this step, of course, the students are also expected to live healthier life," said Rector.
Similarly, UGM Director of Student Affairs, Drs. Haryanto, M.Si. also requested the community leaders to participate in supervising and assisting students who are studying at UGM.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the community leaders also had the opportunity to discuss and deliver a range of complaints and ideas about structuring the area and environment as well as the security around the campus which is related with the community. Darman, head of Karangmalang sub-village, assesses the meeting to be quite useful to provide input to UGM.
"For us, the UGM community welcomes the meeting that is expected to provide input for UGM and vice versa," said Darman.
