Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Prof. Dr. Mahfud M.D, S.H, M. Hum., regretted that many state officials only act as observers in overcoming the problems that threaten the existence of the state territory and ideology. In fact, these officials actually have the authority to take decisive action. "I wonder why the officials spoke as if they were analysts. What the use of becoming officials if they do not use their authority? Whereas there are already 160 thousand young people having been brainwashed by the NII. This was included as ideological terror,” said Mahfud in the National Meeting Implementation of Pancasila Values in Upholding Constitutionality in Indonesia, which was held at UGM Graha Sabha Pramana, Monday (2/5). The meeting is the result of cooperation between UGM’s Pancasila Study Center and the Constitutional Court.
According to Mahfud, the government should take a decisive action against all elements that threaten the state territory and ideology because at present violence based on authoritarianism, religious and ideological terror has already appeared. "The state should not be dictated by thugs, nor pirates. If anything threats its territory and ideology, it’s legal for the country to enforce its sovereignty," he said.
Mahfud also urged the government to act decisively toward the organization on behalf of religion and has the objective to replace the state ideology of Pancasila to become the Islamic Caliphate. "This is already an ideological terror. In fact, it’s more dangerous because it’s questioning the ideology that we all have agreed, namely Pancasila. The organization that is using the name of Islamic group is even wishes to fight for Islamic Caliphate, from Thailand to Australia. They do it openly. Why are we and the state are silent on this, whereas the members and its organization are already obvious," he added.
Mahfud added that although every person has the right to fight for ideas and thoughts, it all must be within the limits of the countries. "For example, the idea of changing the country, it already violates human rights. It should be dealt with firmly," he said.
UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., in his welcoming speech said that UGM and the Constitutional Court agreed to conduct cooperation of Pancasila’s values implementation in the application of the state constitution. "We work together in the successful implementation concept of the development and practice of Pancasila’s values," he said.
On the sidelines of the national meeting, signing of cooperation was also conducted on Pancasila and Constitution publication through education, training, research, and constitution socialization. Secretary General of the Constitutional Court, M. Gaffar, and Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., signed the cooperation, witnessed by Prof. Dr. Mahfud M.D.
