YOGYAKARTA- Again, UGM became the winner in the National Arch Design Competition held at Faculty of Engineering from 1-3 May 2011. UGM team beat CivEng (University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa / UNTIRTA) in the second position and InsanHarapan Team (Polytechnic of Malang / POLINEMA) in the third. Meanwhile, C2B from ITB became the winner of innovation, and Mahadigdaya (Itenas) became the favorite winner in the competition.
The competition organized by KMTS (Civil Engineering Students Association) Faculty of Engineering was the third time. This year the committee raised the theme of Effective and Innovative Arch and gave the title Arch Design Competition. The event started with the selection of the design proposals from each candidate. It was noted that 37 proposals being submitted to the committee.
The juries select the top 20 and they were invited to attend the final event in Faculty of Engineering, UGM from1 to 3 May 2011. The event consisted of technical meeting and dinner banquet (day-1), arch making and presentation (day-2), as well as testing and announcement of winners (day-3).
The event was lively because it was attended by 20 teams from 15 different universities, among others, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Sriwijaya University of Palembang (UNSRI), Hasanuddin University of Makassar (UNHAS), Gorontalo State University, Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS), UNTIRTA, Maranatha Christian University, Universitas Gadjah Mada, National Technology Institute of Bandung, Gunadarma University, POLINEMA, Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), and Diponegoro University (UNDIP).
The juries of this competition consisted of Ir. Mitrabani (Director of PT.Cakar Bumi), Ir. FX. Sugiyanto, B.E, M. Eng., Ph.D. (PT.Berkah Pertama Mandiri), Ir.Pranowo Widagdo, M.T (Lecturer of Atmajaya University and Ali Awaludin, ST., M.Eng.Ph.D. (Lecturer of Wood Structure UGM)
