Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada put the first stone of construction of Graduate Building of Faculty of Agriculture on Friday (6/5). This was started by the Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., followed by Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Ir. Triwibowo Yuwono, Ph.D. Previously, putting the first stone was also done by one alumnae of Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Purwaty Lee Couhault.
The Dean said that the construction of the graduate building is to support the learning process, especially for graduate students. Agricultural Sciences’ Graduate Program was previously under the management of UGM Graduate School. However, since the policy of the University in 2007 on the transfer of mono-disciplinary graduate programs to the Faculty, the Graduate Program of Agricultural Sciences was organized by Faculty of Agriculture. "The policy gives implications to Faculty of Agriculture to immediately prepare the graduate program infrastructure. Because of the limited facilities, the learning process of graduate program partly shares with the S-1 program," he said.
Yuwono said the construction was conducted on the old building area measuring 1,000 m2 and total building area of 3,000 m2. A three-storey building is planned to be built as lecture rooms, admission office, student rooms, and exhibition hall.
Purwati Lee said the construction of the new building is expected to facilitate teaching and learning activities of graduate students of Faculty of Agriculture UGM.
Meanwhile, the UGM Rector expressed his appreciation and gratitude to everyone who has helped the building construction. The Rector hoped that in future, cooperations between UGM and partners can synergize for mutual goodness.
