UGM Graduate Student Association held an art event in a series of arts and culture festival of year 2011. The activity takes place on Tuesday (10/5) at the UGM Koesnadi Hardjasoemantri Cultural Center.
The event entitled Building Solidarity towards Peaceful and Harmonious Life is enlivened by the performance of Yogyakarta’s famous dancer, Didik Nini Towok. His appearance successfully wowed the spectators who packed the building. On the occasion, the man whose real name is Kwee Yoe presents Walang Kekek mask dance, a dance he created in 1980.
Besides Didik Nini Thowok, a variety of traditional arts such as the percussive angklung and a number of traditional dances from several regions in Indonesia were also presented. Audience can also saw the appearance of some foreign students from Myanmar who present a traditional dance of Myanmar, Wyne Chit-Chit Ang.
Laily Agustina R, coordinator of the arts and cultural festival, said that the organization of this activity is expected to become a means for students to get to know more about arts and culture in Indonesia. "In this event various arts and cultures from a number of regions in Indonesia are presented," she explained.
