Yogyakarta-Dozens of robots from leading universities in Indonesia competed in the National Robot Contest held at Grha Sabha Pramana UGM on 11 and 12 June. The event under the theme 'Jogja Robot Under Attack' features 101 teams representing the robot champions from all regions in Indonesia.

They have successfully passed the preliminary round held in five regions of Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Kalimantan and East Indonesia. There are 12 teams representing several universities in Yogyakarta, Universitas Gadjah Mada, UNY, UAD, and STMIK AMIKOM which compete for the championship.

The robot contest this time held five categories of competition. The main category is Indonesian Robot Contest under the theme "Larungan". This theme is taken from the theme of ABU Robocon, "Loy Krathong", which means releasing lotus flowers for the goddess of the river that used to be held every November in Thailand. The winner of this category will represent Indonesia in an international robot contest of ABU Robocon 2011 in Thailand.

The next category is the Indonesian Intelligent Robot Contest, which consists of three categories, namely Wheeled and Legged Fire Extinguisher Intelligent Robots and Soccer Players Robot. Intelligent robots automatically compete quickly to find fire to be extinguished in an arena that resembles a house. Meanwhile, the football player robots try to compete to make goals as many as possible into the opponent's area. Winners of this contest will represent Indonesia in the robot contest in America.

Another category is the Indonesian Art Robot Contest featuring a robot that imitates Klono Mask dance from Yogyakarta. There are 16 robots that will compete to dance in this category.

To enliven the National Robot Contest 2011 in UGM, exhibitions and championships with the theme 'Jogja Under Attack' were also held. The exhibition takes the concept of innovation in the field of robotics in the form of performances of robots, robot toys and hobbies, robot artwork, technology and educational booths, performances of music bands, interactive games, and costume.

Various competitions were held with the target participants from all levels of education, from kindergarten to college students. Coloring contest of robot is intended for children of kindergarten; robot drawing contest for elementary school children; Water Rocket Competition for middle and high school students; and Line Follower for high school and college levels. All championships fight for Governors Cup of Yogyakarta.

According to Drs. M. Arif Wibisono, chairman of committee, bergodo army consisting of 20 Lombok Abang soldiers will accompany the parade of robot teams at the beginning of the opening ceremony followed by new creation dance Kridha Pratama Millennium. Officially, the event will be opened by Minister of National Education of Indonesia, Mohammad Nuh.

This contest was attended by thousands of supporters from various universities from within and outside of Yogyakarta. The role of Yogyakarta residents is also expected to support the robot teams from other cities in order to win the game in every category. Be witness to the history of Indonesia's most prestigious robot contest this year!
