Some UGM students try to initiate a good traffic education to children at elementary level. The education is done through program application of computer games. This educational program started from the concern of Firdaus Ismail Sholeh and Rifauddin Tsalitsy (Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and Azizah Kartika Nugraheni, Diany Ufieta Syafitri, and Ardias Nugraheni (Faculty of Psychology) on increasing cases of traffic violations and accidents from year to year. This program was introduced through Student Creativity Program Community Services Division (PKM-M).

Firdaus Ismail said that the program is expected to be an intervention solution to the limited traffic education that has not been evenly distributed. In addition, it is also to facilitate community access to utilize the games program as the media for good traffic education.

The computer games program, named Jagoan Lalu Lintas (Traffic Hero), is a virtual reality replica of the behavior of daily traffic. With this program, children can experience driving simulation properly and correctly in accordance with traffic regulations. "Up to now, Jagoan Lalu Lintas program has been officially installed in twenty two elementary schools in Yogyakarta and will be used simultaneously in the new academic year 2011/2012," he explained in a press release sent on Tuesday (14/6).

In addition, this program has been used by Traffic Police of Yogyakarta since May as a medium of good traffic education to schools. Students of schools in Yogyakarta which have been equipped with Internet can directly play this game by opening http://jogjabelajar.org.

Furthermore, the program will be distributed to all primary schools in Yogyakarta in cooperation with the Technical Services Unit (UPT) upon the recommendation of Education Board of Yogyakarta city. "Actually, Yogyakarta Traffic Police through Education and Engineering Unit (Dikyasa) already has an education program of good traffic community. Each month, they visit schools to teach children to have good traffic behaviour. However, the socialization conducted needs many equipment and resources of time and energy so that its implementation has not been evenly distributed to all schools in Yogyakarta City," he added.

The Jagoan Lalu Lintas is expected to make the education program of good traffic community more effective for all schools in Yogyakarta.
