Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., accompanied by Director of Student Affairs, Drs. Haryanto, M.Sc., released UGM contingent that will compete in PIMNAS XXIV. The contingent consisting of 39 PKM teams, 4 supporting teams, and a group that will perform an exhibition will compete with other universities for five days from 18 to 22 July, 2011 at Hasanuddin University, Makassar, South Sulawesi Province.
The Rector hoped that the grand champion title that was won in PIMNAS XXIII in 2010 in Mahasaraswati University, Denpasar, Bali, could be regained by UGM team this year. "With a variety of exercises and preparations conducted by students and lecturers, of course, we hope to bring the trophy of grand champion back to UGM," the Rector said at the Auditorium of Faculty of Pharmacy, Friday (15/7).
The Rector believes that in a man there is high potential which is only partially used. If this potential continues to be explored, he will show the maximum capacity to compete. Therefore, to the team of PIMNAS UGM, he advised each person to be able to eliminate the barriers to make top achievements in Makassar. "We’ve done chanting just now to awaken our ability. There might be other ways to awaken the ability, like by shouting or dancing as long as not disturbing others," he said.
UGM academic community expects to regain the success in PIMNAS XXIV year 2011 in Makassar. The success will open link to other successes in the future. "Success will bring happiness and pride for all community of UGM as well as parents of students," he added.
In this event, Prof. Sudjarwadi had the opportunity to present the championship trophy gained by UGM in PIMNAS XVIII back to the Director of Student Affairs UGM in order to be fought for again this year.
Drs. Haryanto, M.Sc. also had the same hope. He said that PIMNAS XXIV has the theme Innovation to Build Character of Maritime Nation. UGM again sends the most number of team consisting of 39 PKM teams, 4 supporting teams, and a group with 169 students and 64 reasoning supervisors/vice deans of student affairs to do exhibition.
