To instill love to the environment, the Agricultural Training, Research and Development Station (KP4) organized EfSD (Education for Sustainable Development) Camping from 15-16 July. The activity was opened by Senior Vice Rector for Academic, Research, and Community Service, Prof. Retno Sunarminingsih, M.Sc., Apt., Friday (15/7) in KP4 UGM. The camping was followed by 130 participants of scouts in 5 branches in Yogyakarta. During the activity, participants were given the materials in the form of training and EfSD-based practices.
Head of KP4 UGM, Dr. Ir. Cahyono Agus D.K., M. Agr. Sc., mentioned that each group of campers competes in drafting a proposal from the observation and environmental studies involving the community and KKN PPM UGM 2011. The concept offered in the proposal is a solution that can later be applied in the community. "The concept of EfSD is applied significantly in several respects during the camp, among others, by using biogas energy of cow drops in KP4 UGM for lighting in the campsites," he explained.
The non-formal activities through the environmental camp are expected to form cadres of environmentalists and biodiversity experts who have concerns with EfSD. "The cadres will be able to continue and disseminate the absorption of knowledge, benefits, and appropriate EfSD-based technology that gives benefit to the community," he concluded.
The EfSD camp held by KP4 UGM in cooperation with Kwarda XII of Scout Movement of Yogyakarta and Berbah Sub-District in Sleman raised the theme Love Biodiversity and Love People for Sustainable Livelihood.
