Professor of Faculty of Medicine, Prof. dr. Makmuri Muchlas, Ph.D., Sp.KJ (K), died on Tuesday (19/7) in Bintaro Hospital, Jakarta, at 12:50 pm. The Professor of Faculty of Medicine passed away at the age of 69 and left his wife Izanah, B.Sc., and three children, Aliena Desi, Bevy Novita, and Aditya Bayunanda.
The man born in Brebes, March 8, 1942, was buried on Wednesday (20/7) at 11.00 in Sawitsari UGM Cemetery after being departed from his house at Amerta Indah Street IV/71 Kavling Indah Jombor Kidul Residence RT 7/ 23 Sinduadi, Mlati, Sleman. Previously, he was laid in state at the Hall of UGM to get the final respect from UGM.
Chair of Council of Professors of UGM, Prof. Dr. Ir. S.M. Widyastuti, M.Sc., in her speech releasing the late Prof. Makmuri expressed deep condolence over the death of the senior medical expert who has rendered great energy and thoughts contributing to the development of higher education in the field of psychiatric in Indonesia. Widyastuti mentioned that during his lifetime, Prof. Makmuri was known as a figure who was strong-willed, meticulous, and loved to encourage faculty and students not to be static, but dynamic and innovative. "Modeling of the late professor hopefully can be followed and developed by his students and followers in the future," she said.
Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Prof. dr. Mukti Ali Ghufron., M.Sc., Ph.D., said that Prof. Makmuri gained Doctoral degree in 1970, then achieving his psychiatric license in 1973. Furthermore, his doctorate was gained in 1986.
Prof. Makmuri became a teaching member of Faculty of Medicine since 1969. In addition, he had served as Assistant II of Minister of Youth and Sports (1990-1993), Expert Staff to Minister of Youth and Sports (1993-1996), and Director General of Non-School Education (2000-2002). Further, he also had the position of Secretary General of Ministry of Education (2002-2005) and Deputy Coordinator of Professional Staff of National Resilience Institute (2008).
