The Agricultural Training, Research and Development Station of Universitas Gadjah Mada (KP4 UGM) successfully developed GAMA BURGER as an alternative fish feed. GAMA BURGER is the result of fermented complete feed, which consists of fish flour, pollard, expired bread, leaves, molasses, and vitamins. In the process of fermentation, all ingredients are fermented for 3 days with multi-microbia.
Prof. Dr. Ali Agus, D.A.A., D.E.A., Head of Cattle Division of KP4 UGM, said that fish feed burger made by KP4 UGM has been tested on pomfret fish in Kalitirto pond, Kalasan, Sleman, for five months. The giving of fish feed burger for 10% of the biomass is able to give efficiency value by 40%. This result is considered very beneficial for fish breeders. This feed burger will be able to answer frequently encountered problems in fish farming up to now in which the cost of feed is usually very high, exceeding 50% of the cost of production," Ali Agus said in KP4, Tuesday (23/8).
Ali Agus said that the high cost faced by fish farmers has been due to the expensive protein feed source in form of fish flour. Therefore, the existence of alternative high protein feed is expected to reduce the use of fish flour. The data shows the test result of GAMA BURGER at a price of 3,200 rupiah/kg can produce pomfret with weight variations from 4 ounces to 1 kg per head. A significant result is due to feed in the form of powder. "While the provision of commercial pellet fish feed only produces fish weight below 0.5 kg, while the feed price is more than 7,000 rupiah. The provision of fish feed burger will be developed further. The processing into fish pellets is expected to provide uniformity in the portion of complete feed among sources of energy, protein, and vitamins," the lecturer of Faculty of Animal Sciences UGM said.
Head of KP4 UGM, Dr. Cahyono Agus, added to consolidate more the use of fish burger on Saturday, August 20, 2011, the KP4 held training as a form of dissemination of appropriate technology. The training was followed by practitioners from the public, fish farmers, students, and lecturers who were equipped with theory, practice and a visit to the fish pond.
According to Cahyono Agus, GAMA BURGER development is a form of integrated agriculture-based agribusiness concept which is a model of education for sustainable development (EfSD) in KP4. Development of cultivation which is a form of collaboration aspects of academicians and practitioners is expected to be developed more widely to the public. "According to the plan, the training will also be given to Merapi disaster survivors who failed to harvest catfish due to the high price of animal feed," Cahyono Agus said.
