Various problems encountered by the nation in recent years are actually derived from the weak character of the nation. In addition, citizens’ concern toward the four pillars that form the nation’s character, namely Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution and the Unitary Republic of Indonesia as well as Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), is also diminishing.
"Hence, the People’s Consultative Assembly feels shortages in the socialization of the four pillars, the Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, Unitary Republic of Indonesia, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Therefore, this is necessary to be discussed in the Forum Group Discussion (FGD) today," said Vice Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly. Hajriyanto Y Tohari, in Novotel Hotel Yogyakarta, Tuesday (11/10).
Present as keynote speaker of the Seminar "The Role of Humanities Science in Nation and Character Building", Hajriyanto was concerned over the various problems faced by the nation. Various cases of corruption on all fronts are considered affecting the quality of life of Indonesian people. "Like other mafias, law mafia, tax mafia, the corruption mafia is recognized as present, because there have been various task forces to eradicate mafia, such as law mafia task force and others," he explained.
Related to this, Hajriyanto was concerned because character education is no longer taught. While in fact this kind of education should be taught by the leaders through role models. "It is particularly really problematic since they sometimes criticize, but they cannot be an example, moreover, most of today’s leaders are elected through the electoral process, such as President, Governor, Regent, Parliament and others," he added.
Therefore, through this Group Discussion Forum, Harjriyanto hopes academics could give advice related to the construction of the nation’s four pillars, state administrators and government must understand very well about these four pillars. "Various problems of the nation, such as corruption, badly need to be addressed by humanities sciences to build the nation character. However, new institutions are not needed, to socialize the nation’s four pillars it is quite effective to cooperate with the National Security Council (Wantanas)," he said.
In the seminar held by People’s Consultative Assembly in cooperation with UGM, Zulkieflimansyah explained that in the current political scene, the humanities science have to contribute ideas to develop national politics that see politics as the call of life, not a profession, let alone the job that provides material rewards. Humanities sciences need to be transformed and actualized in politics. The wisdom concept such as asceticism might be suitably used for the current situation.
"The humanities science will not provide practical solutions for various problems. But learning on humanities provide sensitivity, awareness, ability to explore more about the justice, welfare and compliance," said the member of the People’s Consultative Assembly.
In the seminar that was opened by Vice Rector of Alumni Affairs & Business Development, Prof. Ir. Atyanto Dharoko, M. Phil., Ph.D, Dean of Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Dr. Ida Rochani Adi, S.U, Prof. Dr. dr. Sutaryo, H. Djuwarto, member of People’s Consultative Assembly and lecturers and students of UGM.
