Faculty of Biology cooperates with LPPT UGM to hold Scientific Writing and Demonstration Instrument Contest 2011. This activity is organized within the framework of the 62nd Anniversary of Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta, in a series of UGM Research Week 2011 events. Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Research, Faculty of Biology, Dr. Endang Semiarti, M.S., M.Sc. said the subject of this activity is high school students in Java and Bali.
The benefits of this activity, said Endang, are to introduce Faculty of Biology as a quality study program and the means to gain knowledge with environmental comprehension, as well as to foster high school students’ love for the environment and biodiversity through awareness about the importance of the Biology science.
"In addition, (it is) to enhance the creativity of students in learning and understanding the science of biology as a very exciting science," said Endang in the release, Friday (14/10).
She added that the Scientific Writing Contest is attended by 32 teams from 18 high schools in Java and Bali. Demonstration Instrument Competition is followed by 7 teams of five high schools in Java and Bali. Desk evaluation has been started from July 23, 2011 until October 8, 2011. The semifinals of Scientific Writing and Demonstration Instrument Contest were held on October 9, 2011, with 10 semi-finalist teams of Scientific Writing Contest, and 7 semifinalists’ teams of Demonstration Instrument Contest.
"From the semi-finals, 5 finalist teams were selected for each Scientific Writing, and Demonstration Instrument Contest," Endang explained.
The finalists have been announced through the web: www.ibscbiologi2011.blogspot.com on Wednesday, October 13, 2011, and invited for presentation at the final level. The final will be held on October 15, 2011 at 10.00 – 13.00 at the Research Week stage in UGM Grha Sabha Pramana. Next, the winner will receive a trophy from the Rector and prizes.
