Agronomy Students Association, Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Gadjah Mada held Gadjah Mada Agro Expo 2011. The Agriculture exhibition to mark the World Food Day was held for two days, 15 to 16 October 2011, in the east parking lot of the UGM “Valley”. Various food products of superior cultivars were presented in the exhibition. In addition, there is also exhibition of tropical fruit, ornamental plants, and agricultural business.
Tommy G. Yeza, Agro Expo Committee Chairman, said as many as 20 government agencies and private sector have display booths in this activity. Some of them are the Coffee and Cocoa Research Center of Jember, Quick Tractor Manufacturers, Bisi National, PT Petrokimia, and Unilever. "The expo is held to introduce a variety of agricultural products to the public, as well as to mark the World Food Day," he explained, Saturday (15/10).
In addition to agricultural exhibition, Gadjah Mada Agro Expo is also enlivened by music performances, Live Performance of Barry Likumahuwa Project on Sunday, October 16, 2011. "Also interesting, the talk show is about current issues of agriculture in Indonesia, also contest of tropical fruit, sapodilla fruit, which is joined by the farmers of Wonosari and surrounding areas. With this kind of activity, of course we hope that the public perception toward agriculture will change," he added.
Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Ir. Triwibowo Yuwono, Ph.D., gave a high appreciation for the organization of Gadjah Mada Agro Expo 2011. He hopes that the agricultural exhibition inspires many people to give more attention to agriculture and farmers in Indonesia. "I hope it is not just about the festivities, but the way we care about the farm with all the issues and the condition of farmers in Indonesia," he said.
