Secondary hazards caused by natural disasters in the form of cold lava of Mount Merapi or flood that occurred on December 6, 2010 has destroyed public facilities and infrastructure. Lava and floods that hit Krasak and Bedog Rivers destroyed container in springs and clean water pipelines, dam and irrigation channels.
At least 23 clean water pipelines and 8 dams and irrigation canals along Krasak River are heavily damaged, and the estimated loss is 3.5 billion rupiah. As a result as many as 1,586 families or 6,344 people, livestock and 776 ha of agricultural land area became dried and experienced water shortages.
"Therefore, we are villagers from Girikerto and Wonokerto, Turi Subdistrict would like to thank them for BAZNAS assistance through LPPM UGM to do self-managed rehabilitation of water channels and dams," Sugito said, Chairman of "Krasak Lestari" PAMDES at the inauguration of Clean Water Reconstruction and Development Program after eruption of Merapi," in Nganggring Hamlet, Girikerto Village, Turi Subdistrict, Sleman, Wednesday (19/10).
Representing the people of two villages, Sugito reported some phases of rehabilitation and reconstruction program carried out in detail, among others, in Magir the development is in form of a dam between Sleman and Srumbung. Dam rehabilitation of Kali Ireng in Tunggularum with oncoran of 64 Ha and rehabilitation of water catcher tub in Nganggring at Kali Ireng dam to provide clean water for 232 families or 836 people, 1200 PE goats, 35 cows and a garden area of 50 ha.
In addition, water supply pipelines are built in Ngandong Hamlet, Girikerto in order to meet the clean water needs of 150 families or 500 people. Overall, this program spent 68,065,000 rupiah, and funds are from BPMIGAS-KKKS (48,065,000 rupiah) and BAZNAS (20 million rupiah).
"With the help in the form of cash, building materials, PVC pipes and labor, all the clean water needs can be met. We are very thankful and grateful that the work has been completed, hopefully, we have brighter future," Sugito said.
Similar expression was also conveyed by Sleman Regent, Drs. H. Sri Purnomo, M.Si. In addition to convey his gratitude to BAZNAS and UGM, the Regent hoped the Clean Water Reconstruction and Development after Merapi eruption, residents of two villages Wonokerto and Girikerto could rely on the economy through goat farm and salak Pondoh agriculture again. "Hopefully, assistance from BAZNAS and UGM make people more productive, and in turn when the residents become prosperous, they will be able to set aside their possession for zakat," the Regent said.
UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D, stated the construction of water installations in Wonokerto and Girikerto by UGM together with BAZNAS and Sleman Regency Government is a mandate to be done. After the Merapi eruption, UGM carried out the mandate to develop the science to be able to be utilized in the community. "Although the role is performed mostly by the Institute for Research and Community Service, certainly, a variety of development of this science is for the benefit, happiness and civility," he said.
With the inauguration of reconstruction and development of water supply, dr. Naharusurur, M. Kes as BAZNAS Chairman feels grateful to be able to help residents cope with water shortages in two villages after the eruption of Merapi. As a Non-Departmental Government Institution (Officials), he said, BAZNAS shall distribute funds from the haves. "Whether they are civil servants, employees of private, state enterprises or other institutions, for the two villages the funds are from those in Jakarta and surrounding areas," Naharusurur said.
As a sign of the start of the reconstruction and the provision of clean water, the three officials, Regents, Rector and BAZNAS Chairman signed an inscription and opened the water tap.
