YOGYAKARTA – A total of 160 vocational high school students, representatives from 33 Provinces in Indonesia took part in the National Applied Science Olympiad (OSTN) 2011, October 25- 28, on the UGM campus. According to the plan for four days the Participants will compete in four fields of science, namely mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
Committee Chairman of Vocational High School OSTN 2011, Teguh Widodo, reported that the activity this time is the fourth time. Previously, similiar activities were also held on the campus of ITB Bandung, ITS Surabaya and UNDIP Semarang. "This time we work together with the Directorate General of Vocational High School Guidance, Ministry of Education and Culture and UGM," said Teguh in the OSTN opening at the University Club on Tuesday night (25/10).
Teguh added that the OSTN competition objective is to improve the competence of vocational high school students in the mastery of applied technology and to promote vocational high school as a place for quality education. "We want to improve the image of vocational high school in the field of applied science, so we picked up the theme of creating a young, intelligent, creative, and adaptive generation," he said.
UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng., Ph.D., in his speech welcomed the implementation of this Olympiad competition. According to the Rector, the competition activities this time is an event to cherish and appreciate the field of applied science and create Indonesia’s young generation who are intelligent, creative, and adaptive in the mastery of technology. "UGM feels honored to receive the trust of Ministry of Education and Culture to hold OSTN 2011," he said.
