A total of 500 UGM students in 2011 receive the distribution of Education Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students  with Achievements (Bidik Misi) from the government. The scholarship for UGM students are channeled through the BRI Bank. Meanwhile, the submission of scholarship is carried out by the Director of Student Affairs, Drs. Haryanto, M.Si., and Head of BRI of Cik Di Tiro Branch, Hendro Padmono, to students at UC UGM, Monday (7/11).

Drs. Haryanto, M.Si., said UGM in 2011 provides “Bidik Misi” scholarships to 1450 students across Indonesia. For the first stage, the scholarship is awarded to 500 students and the rest will follow. "In the year 2010 there were 500 student recipients and in this year the number increased to 1450 students," said Haryanto.

He explained the amount of UGM “Bidik Misi” scholarship assistance also increased from Rp500,000 to Rp600,000 per month for 3-4 years. With this scholarship, students will be automatically exempted from paying the university tuition cost, BOP (Education operational cost), and SPP (per semester cost). "In a year UGM manages about 30 billion Rupiah in scholarship that is aimed for nine thousand students. This scholarship confirms the position of UGM which is still a people’s campus, not for the rich only," he said.

Haryanto advised that the students can take advantage of scholarships they receive and put some aside for savings. He also encouraged the spirit to study hard and excel. Haryanto also expected students to be more careful after receiving scholarship, especially with the rampant cases of fraud that occurred recently. "Don’t easily believe in the lottery via short message service or even joined in NII organization. In fact, recently some of the officials’ names have been misused to deceive the students," said Haryanto.

In the same place, the Head of BRI of Cik Di Tiro Branch, Hendro Padmono, also hoped that students are motivated to study hard and complete the study on time. In line with Haryanto, Hendro also reminded the students to always be careful with the various modes of banking fraud, including through the ATM service. "Through the scholarships that are channeled through the BRI, hopefully all of you can make the best of it, subsequently becoming motivated to learn more and make achievements," said Hendro.

The “Bidik Misi” scholarships also received appreciation from the students. One of them is Moh. Mahfud, Faculty of Forestry student from Blora, Central Java. Mahfud expressed his gratitude for the scholarship he received. Previously, he did not expect that student from poor families can be enrolled at UGM. "My father is unemployed because of illness and my mother works in small shop only. That became my encouragement to study hard and quickly complete my study," said Mahfud.
