Indonesia Roller Sport Team won all gold medals in the SEA Games XXVI 2011. Indonesia managed to get 12 gold, 12 silver, and 1 bronze medals. This is a prideful achievement. The roller sport is a new branch and is firstly featured in the SEA Games.

All Indonesian people are happy with the result, including UGM. Why? Of all the medals that have been achieved, 5 medals are from UGM students. They are Anindya Wening Melati (D-3 Geomatics Engineering) who won gold in 3000 meter female relays and silver in 1,500 meters, Latifa Hikmawati (Communications Department), winning gold in the 3,000 meter female relays and silver at 5,000 meter female relays, and Aisha Karimawati (Management Department), who won silver medal in 300 meter ITT female.

In addition to roller sport, achievement is also made by UGM students in rock climbing. One member of UGM Mapala (Mapagama), Fitriyani  from Faculty of Law, managed to win gold for Indonesia in the number of individual women speed track. "It is true that the four students are from UGM. I take pride in these results," said Dr. Ir. Saiful Rochdyanto, M.S, UGM sport supervisor who joins in KONI of Yogyakarta at Science and Technology Sports Commission, who was contacted by telephone on Tuesday (15/11) while still in Palembang.

Looking at these achievements, he sees the chance to open roller sport student activity unit at UGM and also rock climbing unit which is still currently under Mapagama unit. Related to the achievements, Saiful said that UGM will deliver rewards directly to the students who have earned medals at the SEA Games this time.

Meanwhile, Director of Student Affairs, Drs. Haryanto, M.Sc., said at UGM there are mechanisms to give rewards for students who made achievements at the national and international level, either in teams or individuals. "Insha Allah, there is a mechanism to give rewards, whether for international or national achievements made in teams or individually," he added.

Regarding the establishment of roller sport and rock climbing student activity units, Sentot, as he is familiarly called, admitted that he has no objection. Such establishment would accommodate student’s interests and talents. "In principle, establishing new student activity unit is all right as long as the establishment meets the requirements," he said.
