YOGYAKARTA – Faculty of Dentistry UGM held Basic Dentistry Olympics for high school students in Yogyakarta and Central Java. This activity was followed by 42 teams from 20 schools. Each team of 3 participants will follow the preliminary round from November 19 to 20 and nine teams that pass the selection will follow the semi-finals and finals at the end of November.
The committee chairman, Osa Amila, said the ability of participants will be tested in mastering physiology, anatomy, bio-materials, dental and oral health. Moreover, it is to increase the interest of students to study and take major in dentistry. "It is aimed to attract them to go into dentistry. In this competition, there is dental anatomy practice. They are tested to know about the anatomy of the teeth and mouth," Osa said at the sidelines of the Olympics in the Faculty, Sunday (20/11).
It is planned that 25 best teams of the 42 teams that follow the written selection would be selected. This will be followedby further written tests to select 9 teams for the semifinal. "In the semifinal round they will follow presentation selection and question and answer," she said.
Although it is firstly held, Amila said that this activity is planned to be conducted regularly every year. It is expected in the upcoming years participants will come from not only the Yogyakarta and Central Java level but also the national level. The Olympics this time was followed by participants from SMAN 1 Temanggung, MAN 3 Yogyakarta, SMAN 1 Pati, SMAN 1 Yogyakarta, SMA De Britto, SMA N 1 Sleman, SMA N 7 Surakarta, SMAN 1 Cepu and SMAN 1 Kroya.
