A total of 277 UGM students received Education Scholarship from SOEs (State Owned Enterprises). The submission of scholarship is conducted symbolically by the Finance Director of PT. Angkasa Pura II, Dr. Laurensius Manurung and witnessed by UGM Director of Student Affairs, Drs. Haryanto, M.Si., Thursday (1/12) at Meeting Room 1, UGM Central Office.
Currently, the scholarships amount to Rp1,098,515,520, distributed for 227 students. Earlier in stage I (9/10), as much as Rp1,499,057,280 of scholarship was awarded to 378 students. "To UGM alone, SOEs in its Education Care program allocated Rp6 billion for 4 years. Until now, the total amount that has been disbursed in two phases is Rp2,597,572,800," said Laurensius Manurung.
Laurensius says that the allocated funds amounted to 85 billion. This is a national program which is implemented based on the MOU between the Minister of SOEs and 27 Rectors of State Universities and Working Group of SOEs’ Education and Training program in 2009.
“SOEs Education Scholarship is an implementation of SOEs’ commitment in helping ensure continuity in higher education for students who excel but cannot afford it economically," he explained.
Laurensius hoped that the educational assistance could be used optimally by the students to accelerate the study process. "We hope that this assistance can really be used at its best so that students become more focused in their studies without having to be burdened by living and tuition costs issues. It is expected that it can also provide great benefits not only for students, but also for University as well as the nation," he concluded.
Drs. Haryanto, M.Si., expressed his gratitude towards the SOEs which have provided scholarship funds for UGM students. Haryanto hoped that this aid could help improve student’s learning achievement.
Apart from SOEs Education Scholarship, he continued, until today, UGM has been managing about 60 different scholarships from 50 sources. The total amount is Rp30 billion, provided to nine thousands students annually.
Haryanto asked the scholarships recipients to further excel in their study. "I would like to ask the recipients to be able to make more achievements, because education is an investment for the future," he explained.
