A total of 40 members of UGM Dharma Wanita (Women Association) visited the Heroes Cemetery. One of the graves they visited was the grave of the first Rector, Prof. Dr. dr. Sardjito, in the Heroes Cemetery at Kusumanegara Road, Yogyakarta.
Before paying homage to the deceased and laying flowers on their graves, a memorial service was held in advance as well as a moment of silence led by group leader, Drs. Haryanto, M.Sc. "May the soul be accepted at His side. Hopefully, we can also continue their struggle in education field," said Haryanto as the ceremony inspector.
It then followed with a symbolic flower laying by Chairperson of the Association, Mrs. Sudjarwadi. After the ceremony, they laid flowers on the graves one by one starting with the graves of General Soedirman and Prof. Sardjito.
Mrs. Sudjarwadi said the visiting the grave is routinely carried out, this year is in line with 62nd UGM Anniversary. "In the Heroes Cemetery there is the grave of Mr. Sardjito. He was the first UGM president (Rector). He was appointed as a hero because of his struggle for Independence," she said.
No less important, she added, by visiting the graves of the predecessors and the UGM founders, it will further remind the members that one day humans will return to the Creator. "It reminds us that one day we will pass away like them, too," she said.
