Library of Faculty of Psychology UGM held a scientific discussion entitled "How to Contribute in the International Journal, Utilizing Job Opportunity and Scholarship in America". The event took place on Friday (30/12) at the Faculty. Prof. Ahmad Syamil, a lecturer and researcher at Arkansas State University, USA, presented the discussion as the resource person. On that occasion, Ahmad Syamil shared tips on how to write an article for international level. The first step in writing articles in international journals is to make the article by following the same pattern of articles which have been published in those international journals. Similarly, in the preparation of journal, articles should use the same reference. "In addition, we should include other authors (co-authorship) of the famous writer, native speaker author, or someone who has a relationship to the journal editors such as supervisors of doctoral program," he explained.
Ahmad Syamil added in the preparation of articles for academic journals it should raise interesting topics. In writing process, it is better to use the active voice. "Once the article is finished, you should always edit/ re-check the text in order to obtain maximum result,” he said.
On that occasion, Ahmad Syamil also elaborated the various scholarship offers to study to America. He said many schools in America provide scholarships in the form of teaching assistant (TA) or research assistantship (RA). Unfortunately, there have not been many Indonesian people who apply for the scholarships. Most of them rely only on scholarships from lending institutions such as Fulbright scholarships and fellowships from the workplace.
"The scholarships are awarded based on high TOEFL, GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test), GRE (Graduate Record Examination). Unfortunately, the TOEFL, GMAT, and GRE of Indonesian people are usually lower than the scores of Indian and Chinese so that few Indonesia people would receive direct scholarships from schools abroad," he explained.
