Yogyakarta Local committee for National Selection for State University Admission (SNMPTN) 2012 expects the school to be honest in the initial application and selection process of admission to public universities, especially for students who will apply through invitation mechanism. The school must not be cheating and manipulating data on student achievement in order to enter the university by invitation. This is quite important because if the fraud is identified, the particular school is risking to not be able to participate in the SNMPTN process.
"Well, although the sanction is only for one year, but it is a pity for the students, just because their school is cheating, they cannot participate in the selection," said First Chairman of Local SNMPTN Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr. Ir. Budi Prasetyo Widyobroto, DEA., DESS in the Socialization of SNMPTN 2012 in the Auditorium of the UGM Faculty of Agricultural Technology on Thursday (2/2). In the event that was attended by about 288 principals of high school/ MA/MAK/Vocational high school as well as Head of Education Office of Yogyakarta Budi Prasetyo, were also accompanied by UIN Sunan Kalijaga Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. H. Siswanto Masruri, MA. and UNY Head of Academic Student Affairs and Information Dra. Budi Hestri Hutami.
Although in Yogyakarta have not yet founded the fraud case by manipulating the student achievement data, Budi reminds the fate 16 schools in Indonesia who cannot participate in SNMPTN process due to committing the fraud.
Because in the SNMPTN by invitation process the admission is only based on academic achievement and there is no written and skills test, Budi hoped the school would be selective and provide truthful data to the committee of SNMPTN. Budi also explained that the obligation of the school is to only provide data on student achievement, while the ranking is done by the committee.
"Well, this is slightly different from last year because now the ranking is done by the SNMPTN committee, not schools," he explained.
Budi added that some requirements in this process, including BAN SM accreditation – both A, B, C, and other accreditations; student’s rank which is consistent in the semester 3, 4, and 5; parallel class ranking of Science/Social Sciences/Languages; and two options of State University with two study programs of each State University.
Budi who also served as Director of Academic Administration of UGM on the occasion explained that National Education Ministry regulation No. 34/2010 says that State University is allowed to hold SNMPTN by invitation and written test or by opening independent mechanism. UGM and ITB, Budi said, in the year 2011 and 2012 do not open independent mechanism.
"Particularly for UGM, of course, we would want to accept students who are really qualified. Therefore, we do not open the independent mechanism," said Budi.
At the end of the session Budi conveyed the schedule for the by invitation registration, namely from February 1 – March 8, selection from March 9 to May 15, and the announcement of the invitation process on May 28. As for the schedule of the written test, the online registration opens from May 10 to 31, written exam from 12 to 13 June, skills exam from June 14 or 15 and announcement of exam results on July 7.
