YOGYAKARTA- Successful with the International Students Summer Program entitled DREaM in years 2009, 2010, and 2011, UGM, again, held DREaM for the fourth time in 2012. DREaM this year will take theme "Alternative Education". According to the Head of Office of International Affairs of UGM, Dra. Rio Rini Diah Moehkardi, M.A, the theme is in accordance with the spirit of community service that becomes UGM vision.

"Alternative education practices have been carried out in Indonesia and other countries that aim to complement the shortcomings of conventional education system, which is usually based on community participation and awareness of the environment," Rio said on Monday (19/3).

Rio explained that the series of the DREaM program will try to discuss the theme of alternative education and provide opportunities for participants to become part of an alternative education practice. According to the plan, DREaM 2012 will be held for two weeks from July 1 to 14, 2012. "For two weeks, participants will attend a series of activities such as lectures, tutorials, short internship and community services," Rio said.

In one of the series of events, Rio added, artist and founder of the natural school Kandank Jurank Doank, Dik Doank, will be the speaker.

Rio asserted that the DREaM participants will also be invited to study in the field by doing short Internships at several institutions and organizations in Yogyakarta, such as SDKE Mangunan, SD Tumbuh, Madrasah Mualimin, Yakkum, Sukunan Bersemi Community, Cemara Community and Kampung Halaman Foundation.

In addition, participants will also be given the opportunity to know better the local community by following the student field practice (KKN) in Wukirsari Village, Imogiri, Bantul. To be more familiar with the culture and tourism in Yogyakarta, DREaM 2012 will also invite the participants to visit tourist attractions and cultural workshop, such as making bakpia and batik.

The DREaM program can be followed by both local and international undergraduate students. Registration for this program will be closed on 15 April 2012. Requirements to register as DREaM participant can be seen in dream.ugm.ac.id or http://oia.ugm.ac.id/dream. Questions regarding this program can be sent to the committee at ugm.dream @ gmail.com.
