SEMARANG – The cheers of fans and supporters of UGM robot team echoed in Jatidiri Stadium, Semarang, Saturday (28/4). Hundreds of fans cheered the team’s victory in the Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI) and the Indonesian Intelligent Robot Contest (KCRI) Regional III of 2012 which was held by Dian Nuswantoro University. Convincingly, all UGM robots won the first place in all categories, namely KRI, Wheeled KRCI, Legged KRCI and Humanoid Soccer KRCI.
For KRI, Jump Ace robot defeated Maestro-Evo robot of UNY in the final round. Meanwhile, Armada robot won Wheeled KCRI, 1-DA robot became champion in Legged KCRI, and Alfarobi robot in Humanoid Soccer category. Moreover, Jump Ace robot also came out as the best algorithm for KRI category. In addition, Armada robot succeeded to be the best algorithm in KCRI category.
Sidiq Setya (Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, class 2009) is the decisive factor for the victory of UGM robot team in the competition. Sidiq as the driver seemed nimble and deft driving Jump Ace, passing lanes, setting up and inserting some cubes.
"At first I was nervous, but finally I was able to master the terrain smoothly," Sidiq said after the race.
The key, according to Sidiq, is the robot adaptation and the field. Along with two colleagues in a team, Andra Risciawan KRI (Diploma Program of Electronics and Instruments) and Farid Inawan (Electrical Engineering), they are lucky enough to get the red field in the final, beating the robot team from UNDIP.
"In the semifinal we got red field. In the final, we got the red again so that the robot did not need much things to adapt," he added.
Meanwhile, Leader of UGM Robot Team, Damar Satrio Guntoro, added that generally all UGM robots did not face many obstacles in the competition. Obstacles are only a faulty component before the competition. "For example, there are overweight cases in KRI so in a short time we have to reduce the robot’s weight," Damar said.
For Wheeled and Legged KCRI, Damar added, they also outperformed the other teams because they successfully circled around the room and found the fire with the fastest and most accurate time.
At the same time Director of Student Affairs UGM, Drs. Haryanto, M.Si confirmed that the victory of UGM Robot Team cannot be separated from the process of learning from the earlier experience. UGM robot team regularly evaluates weaknesses and advantages, synergizing sciences of the Faculty of Engineering, Mathematics and Natural Sciences and Vocational College.
Robotics, Haryanto said, currently is not just a hobby but has become part of academic learning process. UGM robot team’s victory is also not apart from the support, especially funding from various parties, from the Department, the Faculty, up to the University.
