YOGYAKARTA- Facing "The 10th Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan" in Aino City, Shizuoka-ken, Japan, from 3-7 September 2012, UGM student formula’s car, Bimasakti, is currently being assembled while the documents are being prepared. Bimasakti team leader, Akmal Irfan Majid, said that the development of Bimasakti formula car includes technical and managerial sides. "From this formula car, our students can learn how to design and make a decision about the engineering issues while establish partnerships to support sponsorship for the team," Akmal said, Tuesday (5/6).
Akmal added Bimasakti is conceptualized, designed, and processed by a group of students from Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of UGM named BIMASAKTI UGM Team. This car is a research breakthrough in the automotive and manufacture of formula car in 600 cc, developed by students. "However, the challenge faced by Bimasakti Team in the preparation stage this time is that the team still needs to establish partnerships for accommodations during the competition in Japan," he added.
Meanwhile, Bimasakti sponsorship officer, Jiwandono Agung, described the team management is raising funds from sponsors and donors. "Fortunately, this time we have been partnering with the Federal Oil that provides CBR 600RR engine, also, Achilles Radial as an official Tyre Support, and GDP Venture," he explained.
Bimasakti formula vehicle is designed with specification CBR 600RR engine with student built modofication on the air intake system, fuel supply and exhaust, vehicle dimensions 2500 mm x 1100 mm x 1050 mm using a chain-drive system, water-cooling liquid system and self-made fiberglass body. Components used are a combination of local and imported products so this still takes much funds in research and manufacturing. "This vehicle is designed to achieve high performance by reducing the mass so it can achieve maximum performance during maneuvers. Futuristic aspect also becomes our consideration," said Budi Santoso, coordinator of the chassis and the technical team.
The UGM Bimasakti team consists of 18 students, namely Akmal Irfan Majid, Budi Santoso, Bagas Estu Widyawan, Satria Adi Nugroho, Fajar Muhamad Gustav, Ahmad Ghozi, Supriyono, Bagus Basuki, Hamzah Assaduddin, Wahyu Adhika, Bimo Ario, Fauzan Putradi, Fikri Haykal, Fikri Aulia, Rahmat Hafiz (technical affair), Jiwandono Agung, Binda Anissa, and Intan Tiara Dewi (management), with web and artistic members: Kukuh Sambodo and Faisal Abdillah. The counsels are Dr. Fauzun, Dr. Agung Bramantya and Dr. Budi Dharma.
Bimasakti is taken from the name of the character in shadow puppet play, BIMA, who is tough, strong, and brave, an inspiration to the team who also picked up the philosophy of Javanese culture. UGM Bimasakti Formula team is a student team from Indonesia who is first registered in the SAE Formula Student competition Japan (2011). It is their second participation in the Formula SAE competition. The first generation prototype of Bimasakti became the foundation for the development of formula car research.
