Student Asssociation of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (STARGIS) Student Association of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System Department Vocational School UGM in cooperation with Federation of Indonesia National Orienteering, held Indonesian Student Orienteering Competition 2012 (ISOC 2012). The activity was followed by 60 participants of high school students from various cities in Indonesia, such as Padang, Tangerang, Sragen, Yogyakarta, Magelang, Kebumen, Solo and other cities.
ISOC 2012 was opened by President of National Orienteering Federation Indonesia, Lieutenant. Inf. Taufiq Utama accompanied by Caretaker of Vocational School, Ir. Hotma Prawoto MT. ISOC series of activities undertaken include a seminar on "Go Orienteering!" and Coaching Clinic on July 14, 2012, held in Merapi Auditorium, Faculty of Geography, continued by "O" competition in the Geospatial Laboratory of Coastal Parangtritis on July 15, 2012.
Taufiq Utama explained the ISOC 2012 has theme "Go Orienteering", the organization of this event aims to introduce orienteering sport as well as disseminate the importance of a map. Orienteering is a sport where a runner has to visit the control points on the map. "The map used in orienteering is a special orienteering map," he explained at UGM Campus on Wednesday (18/7) providing information.
"Go Orienteering!" presented the speaker Julian Ch. Manoppo as O-Teacher of the International Orinteering Federation. The seminar also held Coaching Clinic, a simulation of orienteering to seminar participants at the Faculty.
Related to "O" Competition, Head of the Laboratory, Drs. A. Ari Dartoyo, M. Eng., said the "O" competition has been using an electronic card called dibber and electronic control station and the judging is computerized. "The juries are Julian Ch. Manoppo as O-Teacher of International Orienteering Federation, Kusworo Rahadyan as Secretary-General in the National Orienteering Federation Indonesia and several students majoring in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System of Vocational School, Universitas Gadjah Mada," Ari Daryono said.
